I’m a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at City, University of London (UK). Before joining City in 2022, I was Assistant Professor at the University of Houston and visiting professor at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) in 2017. I am a former Fulbright researcher, recipient of two Swiss NSF fellowships and visiting fellowship at the University of Oxford.

Fluent in multiple languages, I research the role of media and journalism in a globalizing world, focusing on questions such as immigration, inequality, and digitization. I grew up in Switzerland and prior to joining academia, I worked as a journalist in Switzerland, South Africa, and the United States.

I’m the author of The Washington, DC Media Corps in the 21st Century (Palgrave) and co-editor of Journalistic Role Performance: Concepts, Contexts, and Methods (Routledge). My research has been recognized with top paper awards by the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and the International Communication Association (ICA). I’m currently on the editorial board of Journalism Practice and International Communication Gazette. I serve as the Research Chair for the International Communication Division at AEJMC and as the North America Regional Lead for the Global Risk Journalism Hub.
