Global Community

In my research, I try to connect to what I call “global community” to build awareness across the world about censorship issues on media, risks targeting journalists, as well as global and international issues (like migration) in our local communities.

Global Risk Journalism Hub

I currently serve as the Regional Lead (North America) of the Global Risk Journalism Hub, which brings together researchers, educators and practitioners from around the world to investigate the news reporting of globalized crises issues.

Black Migration Houston

As a member of Black.Migration.Houston our aim is to serve as an online access point for black LGBTQIA+ migrants in need of services and information as well as provide tools for educators, community members, and others wanting to learn to teach about the experiences of black LGBTQIA+ migrants in the U.S. South today.

JUST Team

For Fall 2021, I’m very excited to participate in the JUST Team – Journalism for Underheard Stories & Trust (led by Prof. Dr. Sue Robinson). As part of JUST, my Latino Journalism class will collaborate with La Prensa in Houston to work on amplifying marginalized voices in public deliberation. This grant project aims to provide inclusive community conversations about inequities in partnership with journalists and J-schools.
